Obituary of Thad Wallis

Mr. Thaddeus Jefferson Wallis II, (Thad a/k/a T.J.), passed away peacefully at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, GA on Tuesday April 11, 2023, after a courageous battle against metastatic bladder cancer.

A native of Americus, Georgia, Mr. Wallis was born on March 10, 1946, to the late William Daniel Wallis and Floreid Pridgen Wallis.

Mr. Wallis was a proud member of the Americus High School class of 1964 where he played the coronet in the high school band.  He spent many summers and afternoons after school working at the family business, Wallis Electric, which was located on the corner of South Lee and Lamar Streets, alongside his father, his uncle, T.J. Wallis and his brother, Dan. In those days he could also be found on the family farm in Schley County being a typical mischievous boy with his friend Bernard Womack.

Mr. Wallis was a 1971 graduate of Georgia Southwestern College and went on to earn his certificate from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1975. He was mentored by the late Brown Hodges and was a partner with the firm of Hodges, Johnson, Wallis & Allen in Americus.  Mr. Wallis took great pride in the work he did for his many faithful clients that entrusted him to be their CPA. Thad was a former member of the Americus Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Wallis was a member of Boy Scout Troop 21 in Americus and earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in 1961.  In addition, he took his job of being a newspaper delivery boy on a bicycle very seriously to ensure the subscribers on his route received their Americus Times Recorder.

Being a man of many talents, Mr. Wallis earned first place awards in a 4-H biscuit making competition and electric demonstration competition.  He played guitar in a local band with Tabby Crabb, Chuck Fairbrother, Billy Tye and Charles Chappell.  Later in his life he wrote and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee alongside Tabby Crabb a song entitled Paradise Island.  Thad also enjoyed playing golf, flying model airplanes at Mac Hodges’ field as well as driving and sometimes restoring one of the many Corvettes he owned during his lifetime. Mr. Wallis was Christian by faith and a member of Turning Point Community Church f/k/a Mabel White Baptist Church in Macon.  Prior to moving to Macon, Mr. Wallis was a deacon at God’s Christian Community Center in Dawson, Georgia.
